History

As an amateur athlete who loves to train for the pleasure it brings, I discovered raw beet powder through my passion for running. Did you know that apparently, this powder could help improve athletic performance thanks to its high concentration of nitrates? To be honest, I’m not that crazy about how it tastes, so I was looking for a way to get my intake while masking the taste. TA-DAHSKI! Purple Nitrat-o-max rose to the challenge. Hahaha!

This recipe is fascinating. Every time I make myself some Purple Nitrat-o-max, I’m amazed at just how easy it is to forget about the beetroot. All you can taste are the blueberries, you wouldn’t even know it contains beetroot powder. Have I noticed that my performance is getting closer to the Olympic level? Hahaha! I’m not going to go out on a limb on that one… but I can say I’d strongly encourage all my friends who run to drink it. Have a great workout and hope this drink helps boost your performance!

This recipe will feature in my upcoming cookbook, available in summer 2021.

Storage

  • Ideally, it’s best to drink it right away.

FAQ

Where can I buy Madame Labriski date puree?

At IGA, Rachelle Béry, Marché Tradition and Bonichoix grocery stores across Quebec. My purees contain no preservatives and can be found in the fruit and vegetable section (yes, dates are fruit) near the pre-cut fruit and vegetables. If you can’t find them, simply ask a member of staff!

The recipe calls for a plant-based beverage, can I use regular cow’s milk instead?

Yes, always.

Where can I buy beet powder?

At supermarkets, in the organic section.
