5 steps

  • Place the quinoa in a fine-mesh sieve, then rinse under cold running water.

  • Transfer the quinoa to a saucepan along with the date puree, milk, and vanilla.

  • Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, then lower the heat to medium-low and cook, uncovered, for 10 to 15 minutes, or according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Quinoa is properly cooked when the grains are translucent and the white germs are visible around the grains.

  • Turn off the heat, cover, and let rest for about 5 minutes.

  • Add your choice of toppings.

History

Quinoa is naturally GLUTEN-FREE and high in protein. This is deliciously good news, so I thought it would be a good idea to make it a part of our first meal of the day. And who said you’ve always got to cook quinoa in water or stock? In my efforts to try and make a difference in changing people’s eating habits, I thought you might like this recipe idea that’s sweetened with date puree. Bonjour, bon matin! Holà, good morning!

Do you have a sweet tooth? How about trying out this breakfast recipe with caramel or vanilla date puree? If you’re anything like me, you’ll love it. A morning treat with no added sugar? Of courseski.

By the way, this recipe will feature in my upcoming cookbook, available in summer 2021.

FAQ

Where can I buy Madame Labriski date puree?

At IGA, Rachelle Béry, Marché Tradition and Bonichoix grocery stores across Quebec. My purees contain no preservatives and can be found in the fruit and vegetable section (yes, dates are fruit) near the pre-cut fruit and vegetables. If you can’t find them, simply ask a member of staff!

The recipe calls for a plant-based beverage, can I use regular cow’s milk instead?

Yes, always.
