  • 1/4 cup (50 g) vegetable oil (canola, olive or sunflower)

  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp (20 g) chia seeds (or insecte protein)

  • 2 cups (180 g) quick cooking rolled oats (gluten free)

  • 1 cup (92 g) TVP : Textured Vegetable Protein (or chopped sunflower seeds)

  • 1/2 cup (80 g) raisins

  • 1/2 cup (75 g) pumpkin seeds

  • 2/3 cup (60 g) toasted almonds (optional)

  • 1/2 cup (150 g) of Madame Labriski Date Puree

  • Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).

  • Place the rack in the centre of the oven.

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or with a silicone mat- otherwise, everything will stick.

  • In a bowl, mix the date puree, oil, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt together.

  • Combine the other dry ingredients, and mix well (yes, we put the dry TVP in the mixture).

  • Toasted almonds are crunchier and enhance the flavours. To toast them, put them on the middle rack of the oven at 350°F (180°C) for 5 to 10 minutes., making sure to keep an eye on them. Yummy!

  • Spread the mixture on the baking sheet and spread it well.

  • Bake for about 25 to 30 minutes in the oven at 325°F or until the mixture is golden brown.

  • Cool and store in an airtight container.

History

This recipe for homemade granola simply blows my mind. I honestly believe it’s one of my best recipes ever. Perfectly crispy, this mixture made me fall head over heals in love with TVP. In fact, this is the first recipe I’ve made using raw textured vegetable protein.

Don’t have any in the cupboard but feel like trying this recipe?

Feel free to use chopped sunflower seeds. I guarantee the recipe will be just as good.

Why make your own homemade granola?

For the simple reason that there’s far too much sugar and saturated fat in store-bought granola. This is yet another recipe that celebrates the option and the joy of eating healthy while still satisfying your sweet tooth. The challenge: not to eat it in 1 day. (Like me!)

Can I swap chia seeds for flax seeds and vice versa?

Yes, always. You can also use hemp seeds.

Madame Labriski, which dates do you use to make your puree?

I’ve been asked that question so many times that I decided to offer the actual dates used to make my date puree sold in grocery stores. How cool is that? Plus, these ones are date halves… to make life easier for you!

What can I use as a substitute for one type of nut?

Simply any other type of nut you have in the cupboard (almonds, cashews, pecans, etc.). For example, if you don’t have any walnuts, you can use pecans. The important thing is not to tear your hair out!
