History

I’m crazy about iced coffee. As a student, I worked in a coffee shop on McGill College in Montreal and I loved it. I like all the smells and aromas. What I don’t like is the amount of added sugar in the chocolate- and caramel-flavoured syrups they use in speciality coffees. It’s unbelievable. It’s not even coffee anymore, it’s basically a dessert. I have nothing against super sweet and oh-so-delicious coffee, but I just don’t see the point of guzzling all that refined sugar… when I feel like having a coffee.

And that’s what gave me the idea of sweetening my iced coffee with caramel date puree. BOOM! Date puree in coffee? You bet. You simply add the date puree to the coffee while it’s still hot, stir and the puree will dissolve. Magic! I love it. You get a sweet coffee with no added sugar that’s also high in fibre. Amazing. You can’t get much better that!

FAQ

Where can I buy Madame Labriski date puree?

At IGA, Rachelle Béry, Marché Tradition and Bonichoix grocery stores across Quebec. My purees contain no preservatives and can be found in the fruit and vegetable section (yes, dates are fruit) near the pre-cut fruit and vegetables. If you can’t find them, simply ask a member of staff!

The recipe calls for a plant-based beverage, can I use regular cow’s milk instead?

Yes, always.
