History

With this French toast recipe made with date puree instead of refined sugar, I thought to myself once again: “let’s do away with refined sugar because date puree is now the way to go.” Why do so many recipes always call for so much sugar? Ah… date puree, I’m crazy about you. Naturally sweet and high in fibre, in my heart of hearts you deserve the gold medal in the Golden French toast recipe category. Enjoy!

On the photo for this recipe, I topped mine with mind-blowingly healthy chocolate coulis but you can just as easily drizzle them with pure chocolate date puree. Yum-yumski!

By the way, this recipe will feature in my upcoming cookbook, available in summer 2021.

Storage

FAQ

Where can I buy Madame Labriski date puree?

At IGA, Rachelle Béry, Marché Tradition and Bonichoix grocery stores across Quebec. My purees contain no preservatives and can be found in the fruit and vegetable section (yes, dates are fruit) near the pre-cut fruit and vegetables. If you can’t find them, simply ask a member of staff!

Can I swap chia seeds for flax seeds and vice versa?

Yes, always. You can also use hemp seeds.

The recipe calls for a plant-based beverage, can I use regular cow’s milk instead?

Yes, always.
